Capri is the Pearl of the Mediterranean Sea, an island that everyone should see once in their life, either for a daily excursion or for a few days.

Capri is essentially limestone, covered with lush vegetation which delights the onlooker. The first famous visitors to be attracted by its beauty were the Emperors Caesar Augustus and Tiberius, the latter, who built a sumptuous pleasure villa known as Villa Jovis, located at a very secluded spot of the island and which became for the Emperor himself the right place where to engage in wild debauchery.

The Island of Capri is divided into two municipalities: Capri and Anacapri. Our guided tour begins in Marina Grande, the harbor, from where we reach a panoramic viewpoint overlooking the other two islands of the bay of Naples, Ischia and Procida. Beyond the picturesque bell- tower there is Piazza Umberto I, the worldwide famous Piazzetta, also known as Capri’s “drawing room”. Its cafés, shaded by coloured umbrellas, have hosted celebrities, politicians, artists, intellectuals from all over the world. We pass the Baroque church of Santo Stefano and start a pleasant walking tour to discover the main corners of Capri town. Before reaching the Gardens of Augustus, overlooking the famous Faraglioni, three spurs of rock which rise up out of the sea and in ancient times used as the lighthouse for seafarers, we will walk along via Camerelle passing nearby the high-fashion designer boutiques and the Charterhouse of Saint James, a monastery dating back to the XIV century.

By a typical convertible taxi we will reach Anacapri town which thrives at the foot of the highest point of the Isle of Capri. The Greek word “Ana” stands for the “highest” point. The natural beauty of Anacapri was discovered by Axel Munthe, a Swedish doctor and philanthropist, who built there his ideal villa “villa San Michele” . The villa, which has become a museum, tell us about both the life of the doctor and the story of the isle of Capri. He celebrated this in the book "Story of Saint Michael" published for the first time in English in 1929 on the advice of Henry James. The book has never ceased to exercise its magical charm, enough to be translated into countless languages and become one of the most read books after the Bible. From Anacapri, by chair lift and in only 12 minutes, it is possible to reach Mount Solaro, from whose terrace you can enjoy an astonishing outlook of both the bays of Naples and Salerno.

On your own you may wish to do a boat trip around the island and visit the Blue Grotto the most beautiful and celebrated of several natural openings into the high cliffs of the island.
